Marine Heights History

Every day we look upon majestic Burrows Bay and its islands, a view that never get old. Throughout history, many European explorers charted through the islands which led to the bay bearing many names. In 1792, the bay was furst named “Islas Morros” when it was charted by Spanish explorers Valdez and Galiana. In 1841, British explorer Charles Wilkes named the bay after the Argus ship – an essential vessel during the war of 1812. Wilkes also named the island at the entrance to the bay “Burrows Island” in honor of Lieutenant William Burrows who was an important figure in the war of 1812. In 1860, George H. Richards, anther British explorer, renamed the bay “Burrows Bay,” which we call it today.

The land on which our neighborhood was built was used by locals for exploration, hunting, hiking, and of course soaking in our magnificent views of Burrows Bay, Burrows Island, and Allan Island. One of our neighbors said as a child he used our hillside as a route to access Cranberry Lake, a common route utilized by locals at the time.

Marine Heights was established by Marine Heights LLC, a Washington Limited Liability Company, as a Homeowners Association in 1999, when the Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions were filed with Skagit County. Construction of the first homes commenced in 1999. Today, Marine Heights is comprised of 40 custom homes, along with three lots yet to be developed.

The Homeowners Association is led by a Board of Directors comprised of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and the Director of the Architectural Control Committee. The Architectural Control Committee is tasked with reviewing and approving home construction and improvement plans, as well as investigating alleged violations of our Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions.

The Board of Directors hosts an Annual Meeting each year in the month of September and meets quarterly to discuss issues of the day. The minutes of Board meetings are made available to all owners.
